WELCOME TO THE HOME OF MICHAEL VERMAAK BOERDERY
Somerset East, Eastern Cape, South Africa
On the banks of the Great Fish River lies a picturesque valley of arable soil providing perfect conditions for bounteous propagation of crops. Michael Vermaak Boerdery was established in 1992 and grew from a small farming enterprise of 75Ha to one of the largest farming operations in the Eastern Cape. The operation currently produces large volumes of yellow maize, wheat, onions, potatoes, lucerne, teff, chicory and oats hay.
In 2010 we installed an OSSBERGERĀ® Cross-Flow turbine generating hydro-electricity for the entire farm. A large section of the farm was piped from the Fish River canal to reduce electricity cost and municipal electricity usage through gravity feed distribution. In 2016, we constructed a large reservoir to store water that is utilised to assist with gravity feed irrigation for the farm. By building the reservoir all the surplus power produced by the Cookhouse turbine is used to fill the reservoir and the lands are then fed from the reservoir.
Michael Vermaak Boerdery is a family run farming operation employing 93 permanent staff members and 140 seasonal staff that operates out of a central yard and homestead .We welcome you to explore our galleries and range of products, services and operations included in this site.
